Continuing with my thoughts from the previous post...
In college, I was always the one who offered to accompany my friends and roommates on their weekend errand runs or evening trips to the grocery store and sometimes even to the laundry room upstairs. A lot of times, I would get reactions like, "Uhh... I'm just going to the post office" and a look which tells me they think I'm weird for wanting to do such mudane and inane things with them. But I just wanted to spend time with them.
When I was a kid, I was one of the lucky ones in choir and band. My parents always came to my performances. Every single one, except for the band competitions which were held during the day. When I think back to it, I find it interesting that my very busy and pre-occupied businessman father, who was hardly ever home, always managed to find time to come see me perform. He was always there at those special occasions. While that's something to be said and I truly treasure that, a part of me thinks it's shouldn't just be the special occasions. The performances were rare and few. Five out of three hundred and sixty-five days. What about the other three-hundred and sixty days? I think so much more happens outside of those special occasions. Life happens.
To me, time is the most valuable aspect of life and the most priceless thing you can offer to another person because once it's spent, you can't get it back. You can't purchase time or create more of it. Time is limited. This is the very reason why I spent my time with people. It's the only way I know how to express my support, love and care. Sure, there are other things I could be doing with my time but I know in the end, time spent with the people who are important to me would be time well spent. The struggle now is, there are just too many people who are important to me and only so much time I can give.
Of course, having said all this leads me to think, how important is my heavenly Father to me then? How much time am I spending with him? Do I spend time on the weekends or during the day just hanging out with him and just be? Or do I only give him my time during those "special occasions" like Sunday worship, fellowships and small group Bible studies and in times of prayer when I'm making requests of him? Hmm...
