We forget...

One of the main points that I took away from Kathy Khang's sharing at the conference a few months ago was remembering the "first place". There was a point where everything in her life was in total chaos. She was trying to balance her kids, a new position in her full-time ministry job, her father-in-law moving in, making dinner, keeping the house clean, a big hole in the roof and a wall on the brink of collapse. It was too much for her. She could only complain to God.

During times of chaos and strife, she lost sight of her original motivation and her original intentions but God reminded her of where it all came from. She was reminded of why she married her husband in the first place. She was reminded of why she wanted to have children in the first place. She was reminded of why they had bought this house in the first place and why they felt the house was perfect for them... because there would be enough room for her father-in-law...

We complain a lot when things get tough, when we're frustrated, tired and lost. Why God? Why!? We forget why we took that job in the first place. We forget why we wanted to serve in the first place. We forget why we wanted to throw the dinner party for all our friends. We simply forget why we made the decisions... I have a terrible memory... I forget all the time...

Sometimes we just need a refresher, to think back and remember that first place we were at when we decided to take that leap to trust.

This year, I'm going to remember.
